Murray High School continues to add amazing elements to its Anzac Memorial Garden. On Monday 13 November, at a small ceremony, we cut a ribbon to open the garden. With me are Mark Dando, President of the Albury Sub-branch of the RSL, and School Captain Ronan Smith. Anzac biscuits and poppy seed cakes followed the ceremony at a very welcoming morning tea. Not something you see every day ... a cowboy singing a song on top of his Brahman bull (aka Jigsaw). Even the bull was wearing a cowboy hat. A show-stopping performance by Lachie Cossor at the Albury Show with his Outback Stockman troupe. No bull? Plenty of protein. Nice singing voice too (Lachie, not Jigsaw). Make a date to get to the Albury Show in 2018! AlburyCity John Barilaro #LachieCossor

What a tournament! On Saturday I helped hand out prizes for the inaugural NSW Seniors Men’s Open Golf Championship held at the Thurgoona Country Club Resort, and won by Grant Kenny. The NSW Government helped sponsor this event which has showcased and highlighted the achievements of our senior golfers and will inspire other seniors to increase their participation in sport and recreation. Local 'senior' golfers were joined by veteran stars of the sport like Peter Senior (pictured), Ian Baker-Finch and Craig Parry. The competition should be here for the next three years. Thanks also go to NSW Office of Sport, Golf NSW, Liverpool Catholic Club and AlburyCity.

There are a lot more trucks driving on our roads. While they have many safety features like extra mirrors, they do have blind spots. Truck drivers are looking out for you, so you should look out for them – it’s a shared responsibility. See what happened when experienced car drivers sat in the truck driver’s seat. It’s a shocker. The Staysafe Committee is about to commence an Inquiry into heavy vehicle safety and use of technology to improve road safety. Video prepared by NSW Roads, Maritime and Freight.

Went to Henty for the screening of the movie 'Unrest' about chronic fatigue syndrome (Myalgic Encephalitis). Very moving – a true case of an illness so often hidden from view. A huge crowd came together in Henty: an indication of the widespread impact on so many lives. Many thanks to Ainslie Campbell and partner Tim Carkeek for what has become their story, to Ainslie’s parents Peter and Alison Campbell for bringing out the award-winning film from the US to Henty, New South Wales, and to Cindy Dutton Scott for helping publicise the event. I took the issue to NSW Parliament, with a speech delivered to the Legislative Assembly on 18 October 2017. #chronicfatiguesyndrome #NSWHealth

Thanks Greg many thousands of us have had our lives frozen by this disease, many without access to care and support. Are you aware that the NDIS that despite there being no cure and no treatment for ME/CFS (as per the CDC Guideline), many people are being refused NDIS assistance, on the basis that they might not be permanently affected? Help is often refused even if the NDIS accepts that the person is profoundly/severely physically disabled. The transfer of community support to the NDIS means that if they reject you, you are on your own. Thank-you for your support and for your letter to Parliament.

Thankyou. We have been missing in action for years. Ignored, trivialised, pathologised, shamed marginalised. This devastates and steals our lives, our hopes and our futures. Thankyou for speaking for so the many who cannot speak for themselves

Thank you for taking an interest in this illness Greg and for taking that interest into parliament on our behalf. Did you know that CFS is not on the list of illnesses that NDIS will cover? Some of us are direly ill with this disease and our prognosis for recovery is bleak and yet we are being given ridiculous "assessments" by NDIS officials, stating that our illnesses are not significant enough, despite letters testifying to the contrary, written by qualified specialists. Such invalidation of our dire circumstances can lead to suicidal ideation. Validation and support is SO important. Thank you for continuing to fight for us as a community. We are often unable to fight for ourselves, because just getting through a day is more than enough of a challenge without fighting a system that seems committed to invalidating our illness. Thank you.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis* Thank you for giving your time and attention to this crippling illness! I hope in the very near future, the Australian government starts to allocate an adequate amount of funding that reflects the nature, severity and lifetime burden of the illness both physically, mentally and financially, as is already done with HIV, cancer and most other illnesses. We need our lives back so we can contribute to society again and there have been enough generations that have lost their lives from this, whilst it’s been ignored and brushed aside as a ‘fake illness’.

A typical day in the office, with a wild visitor: Duggie the joey wombat (6 months). Duggie lost his mum and is being cared for by Hazel Cook, who took up volunteering for injured or orphaned native wildlife in retirement. Hazel wrote about her experiences in a story 'A Retirement Problem' published by the NSW Government in a collection 'Seniors Stories Volume 3'. Jan Hunter, another local author, has her story 'There and Back in PNG' in the publication too. It follows Jan into remote PNG jungle down the river, back in 1974. Copies of the book will be in all NSW libraries or available to download free from http://www.seniorscard.nsw.gov.au AlburyCity Nsw Department Of Ageing, Disability and Home Care Seniors Card NSW

Around half of all Australian boys are active through a sports club during their childhood compared with just 33 per cent of girls, and the participation rate for girls drops sharply after girls turn 12. I encourage all local clubs and sporting organisations to use this opportunity to boost their female programs and events, because we want to see girls not only take to the field, but stay on the field.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of presenting the NSW SES Holbrook Unit with a new $215,000 state-of-the-art emergency response vehicle. We place the highest priority on the safety of NSW SES volunteers by making sure they have the necessary equipment to carry out their life saving work. In the last 12 months this unit of 14 volunteers has responded to more than 27 emergency tasks. On the day I also officially awarded 11 volunteers with Long Service Awards and National medals.
